The Greater Saint John Community Foundation’s Environment Committee organized “Taking The LEED” last fall, a drop-in/open house and guided tour of Somerset Square, 130 Somerset Street, Saint John’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building. The office building, owned by Commercial Properties, attained the prestigious LEED Gold Level of accreditation, a first for Atlantic Canada. The event focused on energy efficiency in commercial and residential buildings and included tours, information and short presentations on LEED standards and their implications for the environment. Speakers Molly Knorr, Matt Peachman, Frank McCarey and Warren Long addressed the design, construction environmental and energy efficiency benefits of LEED structures.
